The Lay(wo)man's Travel Plans

I am but a simple soul, with simple means..... I'm sure some one said that before me but who is keeping account anyway!  I am a traveler!! I go on long adventures exploring new lands and meeting new people!!  I... I.... can't do that anymore actually. While I once did in my younger days, I am now just a single mother looking forward to my weekends.

I actually enjoy being at a home base, raising my son, sharing travel stories, and planting my roots in a beautiful small mountain town. However, my need to explore has not left me either. Restlessness can engulf me at a moments notice. I'm not rich, and while I'm not tied down literally I am metaphorically. I am tied to my need for gardening, raising chickens (eventually), and being the best mom possible to my curious lil explorer. He loves to go new places and see new things so he will most likely be traveling with me. I see plenty of mother/son bonding moments, and plenty of embarrassing pictures to show to future girlfriends.

Traveling For Peasant Folks 101: (These are my goals & limits while traveling.)

- Travel only when job permits (Weekends, Holiday Shutdowns)
    - I can only travel on my 3 day weekends which thankfully I get 2 times a month.

- Budget, Budget, Budget (Camping, Hostels, Day Travels)
    - I love camping and the hostel while not private is really awesome for meeting new people.

- Kid Friendly (Lil Explorers Need Fun Too)
    - With my son coming with me at least 1 weekend a month, I actually want to make it fun yet educational for him.

- Food (Eating Out Is Optional)
    - I'm a food junkie and love sampling the local goods, but most of the time budgets can get in the way. Local markets can cure that ailment.

- Be A Local (Learn The Local Spots)
     - This one is important cause Locals know all the great spots, eateries, and unique hot spots.

I hope you see you can travel too. I maybe limited but that won't stop my gypsy from coming out to explore. Some of my first adventures will be at home. I know, I know, how is that possible? But how many of you have actually got out and explored your hometown?
